If you’d like to know how our local roads are managed, check out the just-launched Highways Guide.

Produced by East Sussex County Council, its topics include:

  • Network Management
  • Asset Management
  • Utility Suppliers (gas, water, power, telecoms)
  • Road Safety
  • Transport Planning
  • Parking
  • Rights of Way
  • Responsibilities of District and Borough Councils

Better yet, specific point(s) of contact for each section are given – very handy if you want to check anything from current/future road closures, report anything road-related, or just check why (say) broadband service or power is off in your area.

The Parish Council has made clear to Lewes District planners its objections to a Reserved Matters application by developer Elivia. In a critical and detailed document, the PC points out what it considers to be many shortcomings in the applicant’s submission regarding the ‘Blackcurrant Field’ site. Supporting evidence is presented, and multiple areas requiring mitigation by the developer are identified.

From Wednesday 9 April to Friday 11 April 2025, between 9am to 4pm, Balfour Beatty will carry out drainage repairs on Spithurst Road and School Hill, Barcombe.

According to the contractors’ info, work will ‘involve replacing broken pipework; rebuilding the kerb surround to help catch rainwater into the drain; repair the collapsed catchpit, and reform ditches to alleviate flooding in the area.’  There’s no mention of resurfacing the road – at least not this time around.

Contact details for the contractors, plus a map of the area affected, is in Balfour Beatty’s release.

A third vacancy for a Parish Councillor is open. According to the formal Notice of Vacancy (read it here) there are now two routes forward:

1. Ten electors of Barcombe Parish Ward can request an election. For one to take place, the ten must give notice to the Returning Officer at Lewes District Council by 25th October 2021. The election will then be held before 24th December.

2. If an election is not called, the Parish Council can co-opt a volunteer.

Please contact the Clerk for full details.
